The morning commuters mimic the stride of the statue the man who led India to independence from the British, Mahatma Gandhi. The life size bronze statue is a gift from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and sits on the front lawn of the Wellington railway station. The Indian High Commissioner to New Zealand says the statue is in recognition of New Zealand's history of being a tolerant open and inclusive society. The Wellington Railway Station is currently going through an internal makover for the University while the external facade gets repairs and maintenance.
