#1994 ... Giant Kina
Nine massive kina, each weighting up to 7.5 tonnes, have been lowered in to Wellington Harbour at Kumutoto Wharf which is north of Queens Wharf. The new sculpture by Michel Tuffery, Nga Kina, was constructed in Auckland and trucked to Wellington late last week. Each concrete kina was two to three metres in diameter, with the heaviest weighing 7.5 tonnes. They would be lit underwater with a ''complex lighting system''. This photo shows the kina halfway through the installation process ... and note the seagull, mid frame swoopong in to investigate.
