#472 ... Wellington Blah

Two buildings that struggle for architectural merit ... but the NZ Post building on the right is a landmark ... it has been here a long time ... its two tower roofs stand at an entrance to the city ... and it serves as a billboard for the neon christmas tree and candle that we see every Christmas Season.

The building on the left is the new Holiday Inn hotel... and on the extreme left in the distance you can see the brick edge of the Wellington Railway Station.

Actually, I really quite like the Holiday Inn! The serrated edge on Featherston means that its visual appearance gradually changes from mostly solid wall to mostly glass as you walk along the street, and the angled balconies give it a bit of zip.

I like like the Holiday Inn. The post office building is too heavy i never appreciate it.

The NZ Post building is one of the worst in Wellington. Along with the Beehive, and the pub that looks like an Atlantic Wall bunker on the corner of Vivian and Tory Streets.
